Sharing Knowledge and Experience
A significant barrier to going pesticide-free is a lack of knowledge. Together with the Pesticide-Free Devon Network and the UK-wide Pesticide Action Network, we aim to enable access to resources and practical workshops and training to share nature-friendly land management skills.
We can also facilitate dialogue and collaboration with the many individuals, organisations and businesses in our local area who, between them, already have a wealth of practical knowledge and experience in pesticide-free land management.
A growing number of places both locally and around the world have already gone pesticide-free and are proving that it can be done. In fact, France has banned the use of almost all non-agricultural pesticides – meaning that all public spaces throughout France are managed without the use of pesticides.
Across the UK, many councils and groups have already taken the decision to go pesticide-free and this means that they are using a range of alternative solutions for weed and invasive plant management including:
- Hot foam treatment
- Hand weeding
- Mechanical scraping
- Vinegar treatments
- Direct heat treatment
For more information on alternatives to pesticides already being used in Devon, visit Pesticide-Free Devon.
The Pesticide Action Network also provides many resources including free downloadable guides for gardeners and councils which outline pesticide-free alternatives for these specific contexts.
